Taichung Metropolitan Park (台中都會公園)

The Metropolitan Park is nowhere near breathtakingly beautiful nor romantic, but it’s quite nice and very peaceful. Located in north of Taichung City, the park offers an instant escape from the city’s noise. A 30-minute scooter ride or an hour bus ride (Taichung bus no. 22 or Ren You bus no. 38 from the train station) will take you to this massive area that offers a visitor centre, a lake, a botany garden, a giant sundia, an amphitheatre, bicycle tracks that go around and criss-crossing the land, and endless green grasses perfect for a picnic. You only need a sheet and loads of food.
The park officially closes at 9pm, but the hillside where you can see the view of Taichung city from the top is open 24 hour. Every afternoon people come to picnic on the hillside. Children and dogs running around playing, chasing balls and just being obnoxious. At the distance you can see Taichung city under the mist, at night you can see the city’s red light covering the atmosphere like fog. You can enjoy it all without needing to pay any entrance fee.  It is one of the best place to unwind without the need to waste lots of energy. A place to lay back, relax, and enjoy the afternoon sun.
